Italian Margarita

OK, so try this on for size… You have a margarita (and according to Archer) so that means, you have tequila, cointreau, lime juice, ice, and kosher salt.  Take away the kosher salt… and instead of cointreau, you have cocchi americano, aperol and a few dashes of Boker’s bitters.  This keeps the bitter orange flavor but adds a smooth fortified wine finish.  It’s a strange entity, but it all somehow fits just right.  I tend to enjoy drinks with sherry, so similarly the cocchi americano resonates curiosity… which explains this latest concoction.  So with a cultural twist, we go from Mexican & French to Italian & Mexican. Why not? Somebody had to add Cointreau to make it a margarita? 😉  The Italian Margarita, my friends.

Italian Margarita

1 1/2 oz Blanco Tequila
3/4 oz Cocchi Americano
1/2 oz Aperol
1/2 oz Lime Juice
2 dashes of Boker’s Bitters

Shake over ice and strain into a low-ball glass & enjoy!
