Widow’s Kiss… Don’t worry folks, he’s still alive but the sweetness of the drink may have almost killed both of us. This herbal-forward sweet drink has a touch of cinnamon and clove as a finisher both otherwise it’s straight up sugar. I don’t normally make drinks this sweet but I felt like I had to play around a bit with Yellow Chartreuse and Apple Jack. I honestly think what kills this drink is the benedictine. In place should have been a rye or a gin to offset the sweetness of the chartreuse and apple jack.. but that’s for another iteration, I suppose.
The chartreuse is extremely upfront in this drink and the benedictine adds the continuous sweetness throughout. While both of those ingredients are herbal, they’re offset by the Angostura bitters which carries through to the end with the benedictine into the finish. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a BAD drink.. it’s just something I typically don’t tend to crave.
Shake all 4 ingredients and serve in a chilled martini glass. Enjoy! 🙂
